Help Trudian & Her children Rebuild their Life
Meet Trudian, a mother of five from Saint James who has been struggling to survive for over 10 years. Life has never been easy for her, but Hurricane Melissa completely destroyed the little she had left.
After the hurricane, Trudian was forced off the family land where she had been staying after the wife of a relative told her she could no longer remain there. Overnight, she became homeless with five children and nowhere safe to go.
With no other option, Trudian searched through garbage, scrap metal, old boards, and discarded materials to build a small structure for herself and her children. Today, the family sleeps on a mattress placed directly on gravel floors. The roof has holes, so whenever it rains, they get wet inside. The structure is unsafe and not suitable for children to live in.
Every morning, Trudian wakes up and goes to dumps and recycling areas collecting bottles and scrap metal just to make enough money to feed her children. Despite the pain, exhaustion, and depression she silently battles, she continues to fight for her babies because giving up is not an option for her.
When Rise Again Jamaica Inc. met Trudian, we knew we could not walk away. We traveled through rough hills, bushes, and difficult tracks to reach her and immediately began helping by purchasing building materials to start rebuilding her home. But there is still so much more needed.
Trudian and her children still need beds, clean water access, bathroom and shower support, clothing, food, a stove, and help starting a small business so she no longer has to survive by searching through dumps.
Today, you have the opportunity to help change this family’s story. Your donation can help restore not just a home, but dignity, stability, and hope for a mother who has never stopped fighting for her children. ❤️🇯🇲
